Inaugural 2025 beach clean-up

Inaugural 2025 beach clean-up

Welcome to February! It's hard to believe that we're already in the second month of 2025! The temps are rising and the sun is starting to hang around longer, giving us more time to enjoy Florida's beautiful beaches.

On 9 February 2025, we met up at South Inlet Park in Boca Raton, for our inaugural clean-up. In recent years, this park has become much more popular in the Boca area, thanks to viral videos from outlets such as Wavy Boats. This has of course brought many more people to the park and with that, a huge increase in trash and debris that is left in the park and on the beach.

As we unloaded our supplies from our Jeep and began making our way to the beach, I noticed numerous bottles and bags stuffed in the bushes. Then another, and another, and another. Before we knew it, we'd spent the last hour picking up trash in the parking lot! We found so much trash in the parking lot that we didn't even make it to the beach to clean up. This was disheartening to say the least, but at least we were able to pick up what we could.

Our estimated haul was over 100lbs of trash and debris, including a bent steel pole left over from a reconstruction project completed in early 2024. The overwhelming bulk of the trash picked up was plastic bottles, plastic single-use grocery bags, and baby wipes. It's incredible the amount of trash we found buried in bushes, indicating that it had been there for quite some time, despite the park having its own clean-up crew.

We'll be meeting here again on Sunday, 16 March 2025 at 8:15AM EST to unload and prepare, and we will begin cleaning up at 8:30AM EST, ending around 9:20AM EST. We will debrief in the parking lot shortly after.

Please make sure to bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes! We look forward to seeing you there!
